One little-known antiquarian text to discover each month

In this section, we invite our visitors to look at the antiquarian books in "a different way". One can sometimes imagine that the bibliophilic taste appeals more to the connoisseurs of old relics, than to the readers of books. But the books, old or not, are before any other consideration texts intended to be read. Most antiquarian books have never been edited again, and are only available in their antiquarian editions which, indeed, also have the merit to be fascinating objects !...

"Les rapports de la Danse et de la Philosophie"

Ce poème philosophique est l'oeuvre du littérateur suisse Emmanuel Salchli (1749-1820), qui souffrait de cécité depuis 1793. Publié en 1801 dans un petit volume introuvable intitulé "Amusemens Poétiques d'un Aveugle", il fut composé à l'occasion d'un "jeu d'esprit" au cours duquel "l'auteur fut condamné par des dames qui sortaient d'un bal, à traiter ce sujet en vers et à leur donner le lendemain une leçon de philosophie".
